Deserve it!

Hi All,
You might remember the story I told you about that girl I was talking
to a few months back. When she told me her age, I said: "Oh, you
are older than you look!!" The faces in the room went green, yellow,
brown, I know this was again an Alex classic. Of course what I should
have said was: "You look younger than you are!" Well, trying
to do better next time, I sometimes play with words, expressions, analyse
their meaning etc.
Yesterday my little brain was confronted with the verb "deserve".
Now that's a strange word: it has a variety of meanings depending on the
intonation you put to it: example. Your wife, with love in her eyes, after
you offered her flowers, did the washing up, the cleaning, etc ( it takes
that much ): "Oh, darling, I don't deserve you!" Your wife,
pissed off, when you come home drunk shouting "ENGERLURND, ENGERLURND,..."
after Beckham scored for victory in the 95th minute ( again ): "Oh
God, I don't deserve this..." See the difference? Also, you worked
your ass off for years, you finally get a salary rise. Reaction from your
buddy colleague: "You deserve it!" Recession, mass redundancies,
you're kicked out, your competing-ass-licker-fighting-for-your-job colleague
says: "You deserve it!" Hmmm, interesting isn't it?
Please give me more examples, this is fun!
Have a nice day
Alex
A man went to the police station wishing to speak with the burglar
who had broken into his house the night before. Youll get your chance
in court, said the desk sergeant. No, no, no! insisted the man. I want
to know how he got into the house without waking my wife. Ive been trying
to do that for years!
